Vidukon (or vidUKon, we'll answer to anything), is a fan run convention in the UK.
We're all about fannish vidders and vid watchers getting together to OD on vids and vid talk and have the fun times.
Aside from video shows, panels and workshops will run for those interested in the whys and wherefores.
All fannish vids are fair game - in all genres and styles. Which means that some shows and panels may have age restrictions.
No videos are shown without the permission of their editor.
This would be a table in the con-suite where DVDs are up for sale or swap. You can get a spot on the table for a flat fee, payable at registration.
You only need an account if you're registering to attend the con, otherwise you can enjoy the site with no strings to tie you down, man.
Your badge name is the name that will appear on your badge at the con. By default, your badge name is your profile name as you created your account on the site.
After you're logged in, go to http://www.vidukon.co.uk/convention/your-con where you can add / alter your badge name.
A non-attending, or supporting registration, include a copy of the con program, a listing of your name and LJ in the con program (unless specified otherwise at registration), and a copy of the con DVD that will be mailed to you after the con.
As the programming will be quite packed on saturday and won't necesseraly leave much time to go out to eat that evening, a buffet will be served in the con room on saturday evening prior to the everning program, for which you can purchase a ticket at registration. Example of menu, as indication : Mixed Filled baguettes and wraps, Lime coriander Chicken kebab, Potato Salad, Home made pizzas, (...) Fruit Platter and Mini Dessert (The buffet includes some vegetarian food))
if you are one to come to the con/cardiff with your significant other or a friend that is not necesseraly interested in the whole con, we're offering the opportunity for a "Plus one" ticket to be bought at registration, that will grant your plus one access to the dinner buffet and the evening program that follows (2 hours show which will most likely be nearly new and premieres vids).
The information provided at registration (such as real name, adress) are only accessible to the concom for organization purposes. This will not be disclosed in any way at the con or in the program. Only your badge name will be disclosed as well as your LJ adress if you chose so in the registration form.
A premiere is a vid that hasn't been shown in any previous convention or event and has not been released online prior the con. It will be shown for the first time ever at the Premieres show on Saturday night at the con.
For vidukon 2011, Premieres must be submitted by February 27th of 2011.
No, you don't have to. We might poll about it just to get a rough idea of how many vids we'll have and to check if we can fill them all in, but you don't have to inform us, just submit your vid on time for it to be included in the show :)
No, there will not. but you can always discuss the vids with the other attendees, we just will not make a panel of it.
Vids must be submitted in the following format (if you're familiar with VVC, it's the same) :
MPEG-2 (.m2v) and the audio encoded as a separate wave (.wav) 48 kHz
720x480 resolution
NTSC format, 29.97 framerate
5500-6500 kpbs bitrate (NOT higher)
4:3 (if vid isn't 4:3, it has to be letter boxed to show in 4:3 fine)
If you have questions about how to get to such format, let your VJ know or email us concom@vidukon.co.uk
The short answer to that is... because it's easy. We're trying to get this con off the ground with limited ressources so it's easier for us to go with this as people are mostly used to it and we do not have a tech person on our side to help with the NTSC/PAL things. we might change this down the line if the con lives on, but as for right now, this was a convenient choice for lots of us.
If you were asked to provide a vid by a VJ for any show besides premieres, you need to follow the instructions given by your VJ. Do not use the premieres form to submit a vid for anything but premieres !
To submit your premiere, go to Convention>Uploads and fill all the required information, including the Warnings part. The information provided in the form will be included in the program. LJ/Website information is not mandatory.
You have the choice to either
As it will say on the form, please name all the files according to the example below (whether you're linking or uploading).
